Riders/ - please share with your members - see below - this is one example of many e-mails received : sent to myself or the Kansas Patriot Guard Site / Capt. Some time ago a detailed attached example was sent explaining Flag protocol.
If you are part of the of the Flag bearers standing guard with a 10 ft pole..you should hold the Pole vertical in your right hand- palm facing in -right arm down- staff is vertical ( always ) - While holding flag and " attention " is called you are not to remove your right hand from the staff- you are not to salute while holding the Flag. - when holding Flag correctly you are in effect " saluting " ( it is acceptable to place your left hand under the right hand in the event of high wind )  We ( Kansas Patriot Guard ) do explain these procedures at the Mission briefing but there are so many new members coming on-board it is up to each of us to share this information with them.
All should be commended for standing " Guard " for 1 to 1/2 hrs at a time. All of us need to  keep as uniform as possible as these " Missions " are for our Military fallen and the Military family.
On the subject of Flags : per Dept. of Defense , when flying two flags one being the American Flag- the other one must be the State Flag or the POW/MIA Flag. Motorcycles are very impressive when you see 20 or more bikes with 3x5 Flags on them. One Flag per bike would stay uniform with everyone else and would appear more professional.    If you have any questions regarding these procedures you are welcome to e-mail me and I will send you the DOD rules.   Thanks, Cregg Hansen ( Bronco 6 ) Dept. ALR Chairman / Kansas Patriot Guard Co- Capt
