(2/1/08-2/3/08) Mid-Winter Forum in Leavenworth - Mid-Winter host Leavenworth Post 23 is gearing up for the Mid-Winter Forum scheduled for February 1-3, 2008. This year's Forum should provide the Legion Family an interesting and informative weekend including addresses by American Legion Auxiliary National President Jan Pulvermacher-Ryan and Dave Rehbien who is the leading candidate to become National Commander next year. A number of other speakers are expected to be confirmed within the next few weeks and a complete Forum schedule will appear in the January issue of the Sunflower Legionnaire. Registration will be available at the Post Home from 4-7pm Friday, again on Saturday from 7am until 4pm, and on Sunday from 7-8:30am.
Chairmen, or Committee members, will provide updates and plans for each of our organization's programs during the business sessions of the Forum.
Sessions are slated for 8-4pm on Saturday, and again on Sunday from 8:30am-noon. Sunday's morning's agenda will begin with a "Four Chaplains"
memorial. Headquarters housing will be at the America Best Value Inn and Suites located at the corner of 3rd and Delaware in Leavenworth.
Reservations should be made by calling 913-651-5500 and specifying that you are with the American Legion Family to receive the Mid-Winter Forum rate of just $45.00 per night. Host Post 23 will feature a number of very affordable meals throughout the Forum including grilled pork steak in mushroom gravy, baked potato, vegetable, salad, roll, soup bar, coffee/tea and dessert for just $8.50 per person. Complimentary coffee, tea, juice and assorted rolls will be available at the Post Saturday morning beginning at 7am. An assorted meat and cheese tray, cookies, coffee/tea, and vegetable soup lunch will be served for $5.00 on Saturday. Lasagna, vegetable, salad, bread sticks, coffee/tea and desert will be available for $10.00 Saturday evening. The Mid-Winter's $6.00 registration fee will include Sunday morning's breakfast of biscuits and gravy, scrambled eggs, coffee, tea and juice served by the District Commanders and Vice Commanders. The Forum will conclude on Sunday with a luncheon of fried chicken, potato salad, vegetable, dinner roll, coffee/tea and dessert for $7.50 per person.
(2/2/07-February) - ALR Post 81 (El Dorado) 2nd Annual Mardi Gras Party - 6:00 p.m. to
at the Post in El Dorado. This year's Cajun Feed will be all you can eat for $15.00 which also includes Hurricane Glass, Beads, etc.
Also, there will be a drawing for a Mini Chopper!!! Tickets for the Mini Chopper will be $1.00 per ticket or 6 for $5.00. We will also have music/karaoke. Adult party for all. Come have a little fun El Dorado style.
( * ) (2/3/08-Sunday) - ALR Post 256 (Wichita) 1st Annual Super Bowl Chili Cook-Off Challenge Fundraiser - Post opens at 1:00 p.m. Judging Time is at 4:00 p.m. Entry fee is $10.00/Pot. Bring your precooked (hot) chili, cook or warm over your own flame. We will sell $5.00 per bowl of all the chili you can eat. Event is open to the public. Non-members can sign in the guest book. If you plan on cooking your chili on site, set up your cooking station at whatever time you need to. Chili may be prepared off site and brought in. After judging, everybody is welcome to stay and enjoy the Post activities during the game. If you need to leave before or during the game, we will have a pot to make Hobo Chili with the leftovers. All chili left for Hobo Chili will be sold at the Post with proceeds going to the ALR. We will also have Super Bowl festivities at the Post with other great food.

(8/15/07-8/17/07) - Salute to Veterans Rally in Winter Park, CO - Kansas ALR will have the whole Vintage Resort this year. Reservations can be made by calling 1 866 239 3989 Monday thru Friday 9-6 and Sat & Sun 9-4 . There are several rooms that couples can stay in, they are like the room Al and I had last year. Two separate bedrooms with two bathrooms a kitchen and a living area. Also single rooms and lofts. The cost will be about the same as last year. I would like to have all Kansas ALR reserved by May 2008 if possible.
I do realize that some people will not know this early if they can get off work or not, however the sooner the better. When people call in to make the reservations they need to let them know that they are with the Kansas ALR so they will get the rate that has been set for us.
